Put on your Christmas playlist and enjoy making this fun festive recipe with friends and family!
60 mins
Serves 2-3
Ingredients
- 100g smoked salmon (sliced in squares)
- 2 sheets of Sushi Nori
- 1 cucumber (peeled into ribbons)
- 3 tsp Wasabi Paste
- 3 tsp Japanese Style Mayo
- Sushi Soy Sauce (for dipping)
- White Roasted Sesame Seeds
- Black Roasted Sesame Seeds
For the rice:
- 150g Sushi Rice
- 3 tbsp Rice Vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
You will need a large cube ice tray mold.
Instructions
- Cook your Sushi Rice according to the instructions on the box. Once done, place the rice in the fridge to cool.
- Whilst waiting, you can slice your salmon and peel the cucumber. Cut the nori into desired shapes -we went for a Christmas tree and ribbons!
- It’s best to make the gifts one by one so the cling film doesn’t get tangled up. Press a layer of cling film into a square mold, large enough that there is excess to fold onto the top once the filling is in.
- Press the Nori into the cube first (this will be the top of the gift). For ribbons, ensure the Nori strips extend beyond the top of the mold.
- Next, add your layers of filling.
- For spicy salmon sushi presents, start by pressing in a square piece of salmon. Follow this with a layer of Sushi Rice, a layer of Spicy Mayo (or Mayo or your choice), and a final layer of Sushi Rice. Press down with each rice layer so that the cube is compact.
- For sesame sushi, mix Black and White Roasted Sesame Seeds together with your Sushi Rice. Fill half of the cube with this mix, then add a dollop of Wasabi Paste, before filling the rest of the cube with more sesame rice mix.
- Fold the excess cling wrap to close the gift and press down to create a flat top.
- Repeat this process for each gift. We made 3 salmon and 3 sesame gifts, but you can get creative!
- To take it to the next level for your festive party, lay the cucumber ribbons in a Christmas tree shape, topped with your sushi gifts. Serve with Soy Sauce and enjoy!
